We are an ordinary family, and we love the Lord. While always being followers of Christ, we tended to let Him lead our lives in some areas, but held tight to our way in others. Over time, God had been working in our hearts to let him take full control, and free us from the pressure of trying to do it ourselves.
In late 2012, we felt the tug of the Lord on our hearts to “get mobile.” It didn’t take us long to realize that God had been readying our hearts and lives for years to reach this point. Without knowing the outcome, but trusting God to show us his plan when He was ready, we surrendered fully to Christ and gave him our complete obedience. We were ready to be followers, not just fans. In a very short amount of time, Brad sold his chiropractic practice to a godly, Christian man, who we truly believe God appointed at the right place and time. Next, our house was purchased by dear friends without needing to put it on the market. We sold our two cars, our furniture, our possessions, and packed up the rest of our life (the most precious of keepsakes) into about 15 rubbermaids for storage, and trusted God to continue to put each and every step in place. In July of 2013, we knew we were going to Ecuador.
In six to nine months, God orchestrated a plan to turn our lives upside down, and we couldn’t be more secure in his promises. We are learning what it means to fully depend on Him, trusting him to lead us daily. While our previous life held a false security in finances and earthly treasures, our current path focuses us on the eternal. We had a good life, with good things. We were happy. But, now we are content and secure in the best of things – a life centered around the leading of Christ. We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we know He holds our tomorrow.
Brad, Sarah, Josh (15), Jake (13), and Tessa (11) travel this path together. By no means do we feel that you must move to another country to be walking in God’s footprints. But, we do know that you must do something – we pray that you will be obedient to Him and let him fully lead your life. The freedom you will experience is amazing. But, then, why would we expect anything less from a Savior who saved us from our sin?
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7
